About SQUAWKING HOGS farm
Squawking Hogs is a 2 person operation. Don, a hog farmer met Tanet, a chicken farmer, have been married since 2018. Once married they added sheep and goats to the farm. Don plants and harvests all the NonGMO crops the livestock eat. They feel NonGMO grain makes for a healthier animal and a higher quality meat. Once the crops are harvested the sheep and goats then graze the fields. They provide natural fertilizer on the fields. The sheep and goats are offered a 20 "free choice" mineral buffet, they naturally only eat what they need. When the sheep and goats graze the fields they naturally fertilize giving the field the minerals it needs.
Don and Tanet work hard to educate people on the importance to know where your food comes from. It is also important to know what the animals eat. Likewise it is important to know how the soil is treated whether the crop is for livestock or a vegetable you will be eating. We have all heard "you are what you eat," but you are also "what you eat eats." If you see any livestock farmer ask them about how they raise the animals. What you eat matters! You only have one body to live in, feed it well.
At this time we are not going to be raising chickens this spring/summer. Raising chickens is a back breaking adventure and our backs hurt. As do our shoulders and knees and the rest of our joints. We are trying to figure out a different system for feeding to make it less stressful on our bodies. If we can make the necessary adjustments we will consider raising, a smaller than usual, flock of meat chickens.
